The Dog Days of Investing: Why Chasing Squirrels is a Bad Financial Strategy

The Dog Days of Investing: Why Chasing Squirrels is a Bad Financial Strategy

| October 13, 2026

Woof! Finnigan here. As Chief Roll Over Officer at Summit Consultants, Inc., I take my responsibilities very seriously. Well, except when someone drops a treat, squeaks a toy, or mentions the word "walk." But today I want to talk about something near and dear to my furry little heart: SQUIRRELS! You see, squirrels and the stock market have more in common than you might think.

Let me explain.

ðŸŋïļ Lesson #1: Don't Chase Every Squirrel

Every morning, I patrol the backyard. And every morning, some fluffy-tailed troublemaker tries to distract me. Naturally, I want to chase it. But here's the thing: by the time I get to where that squirrel WAS, it's already somewhere else! Sound familiar?

Investors sometimes chase the latest hot stock, exciting investment trend or next big thing, but chasing yesterday's winner doesn't guarantee tomorrow's success.

Finnigan's Financial Wisdom: Stick to your investment strategy. Not every squirrel deserves a chase!

ðŸĶī Lesson #2: Bury a Few Bones for Later

I'll admit it. I love a good bone, but do I eat every single one immediately? Well… sometimes. Still, a smart pup knows the value of saving something for a rainy day.

The same goes for your finances. Building an emergency fund, saving for retirement, and planning for future expenses can help make sure there's always a bone in the backyard when you need one.

Finnigan's Financial Wisdom: Save some treats for tomorrow. Future you will be wagging your tail!

🐕 Lesson #3: Stay. Good Dog. STAY!

"Stay" might be the hardest command I've ever learned, especially when there's a delivery driver at the door. But patience is important, whether you're waiting for a treat or investing for retirement.

Markets go up. Markets go down. Sometimes they run around in circles like me after a bath. The key is avoiding emotional decisions when things get a little ruff.

Finnigan's Financial Wisdom: A long-term plan beats running in circles every time the market barks.

ðŸū Final Thoughts from the Top Dog

At Summit, my human co-workers help clients navigate financial decisions with thoughtful planning and investment guidance.

My job? Mostly supervising, greeting visitors, and occasionally rolling over during important meetings.

Remember, when it comes to your financial future: Chase your dreams. Not squirrels.

Until next time, keep your tails wagging and your financial plans on track!
